New neighborhood center in Sendling-Westpark: an eyesore becomes a gem!
The plan for a new neighborhood center in Munich-Sendling-Westpark was recently presented, which will be located on Fürstenrieder Straße, at the corner of Waldfriedhofstraße. District committee chief Günter Keller called the current property, which should finally be made attractive, an “eyesore.” The new center will help improve local amenities and make the district more lively. The building application will be approved at the end of 2024, and the actual start of construction is scheduled for 2026.
The concept envisages that branches of a grocery chain, a discounter and a drugstore chain will be located on the lower floors. New apartments will be built on the upper floors. An existing fast food restaurant on Fürstenrieder Straße will be integrated into the new building so that accessibility for residents remains guaranteed. The square on Waldfriedhofstrasse is being redesigned by the municipal utilities, while a low-rise building remains under monument protection and its preservation is therefore ensured. tz.de reports that...
Citizen participation
The Sendling-Westpark district committee, under the leadership of Günter Keller, always has an open ear for citizens. The official website of the district committee contains information about contact persons and institutions in the district as well as minutes of the meetings. Citizens have the opportunity to raise their concerns at the monthly BA meetings under the item “Citizens have their say”. In addition, a citizens' meeting is organized every autumn where applications can be submitted. This commitment shows how important the opinions of residents are for the future design of their living space. stadt.muenchen.de informs that…
A future project for the district
With the development of this neighborhood center, Munich not only wants to improve the quality of life of its residents, but also change the face of the district. A diverse range of residential, catering and retail offerings creates a center that benefits all generations. While other districts in Munich are experiencing similar developments, the task in Sendling-Westpark remains an exciting challenge.
Progress in this regard is particularly important because, as the saying goes: “Something is happening.” Progress is promising and citizens can look forward to a lively exchange about the new project. This not only rewrites a piece of history, but also opens up a new future for Sendling-Westpark.
