Citizens design Westpark: With ideas for Nuremberg's green oasis!

The Westpark in Nuremberg is about to undergo an exciting redesign that offers space for fresh ideas and the active participation of citizens. Initial concepts will be presented at an upcoming event on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 6 p.m. in Villa Leon. Sör plant manager Ronald Höfler and the project team invite all citizens to share their wishes and ideas. This citizen participation is an important step in shaping the future of the park together, because everyone has something to contribute.

The aim of this initiative is to develop a comprehensive framework concept that takes into account the renovation and expansion of Westpark. Numerous improvements are planned: more green spaces are to be created, new meeting places are being created, barrier-free paths ensure accessibility, and inclusive playgrounds are being planned. The integration of the former Sauerbrey nursery site deserves special mention, as it could provide additional impetus for park development. There will also be new green spaces on Von-der-Tann-Straße and in the western park area.

Online participation and further steps

Participation in citizen participation ends on December 7, 2025 and is also available online at https://westpark.nuernberg.de enabled. This way, even those who cannot come to the event can have their voices heard and contribute ideas. The community hopes for active participation, because diversity of opinions is the key to a successful concept.

These measures could make Westpark, which is considered a green oasis in many places in Munich, even more attractive. Whether for families with children, sports enthusiasts or simply for those looking for a quiet place in the countryside - the planned changes appeal to a wide audience. A good hand in planning will therefore be necessary in order to revitalize the park as a non-profit area.

The opportunity to participate directly in the park's development process is a wonderful example of successful citizen participation that could also find its way into other urban development projects. The motivation and commitment of citizens are essential for Westpark to become a place where people enjoy spending time.
