Villingen-Schwenningen: Remembrance Day commemoration – everyone is invited!
Remembrance Day is just around the corner and the city of Villingen-Schwenningen cordially invites all citizens to the central commemoration ceremony. On Sunday, November 16th, at 2 p.m., a moving memorial service will be held at the forest cemetery in the Schwenningen district. The victims of war and tyranny are remembered, including the dead of the two world wars and the victims of National Socialist injustice. In this solemn setting, Mayor Jürgen Roth will give a speech and lead the commemoration together with Pastor Klaus Gölz.
The musical accompaniment by the Stadtmusik Schwenningen and the Liederkranz Schwenningen provides a moving setting. Performances of 'Funeral March No. 2' by Sepp Thaler and 'I had a Comrade' by Friedrich Silcher by Stadtmusik are planned, among other things. The Liederkranz will take part musically and perform songs such as 'Who only lets the good Lord rule' by Johann Sebastian Bach and 'Holy is the Lord' by Franz Schubert. This is a beautiful opportunity not only to commemorate those who have died, but also to maintain the city's cultural traditions.
Wreath laying and honors
A particularly moving moment is the wreath-laying ceremony, which Mayor Roth will carry out together with representatives of Panzer Pioneer Company 550. The victims of wars, air raids, euthanasia and forced labor are commemorated at various grave sites in the forest cemetery and the old cemetery. The city invites all citizens to take part in this hour of remembrance and to pause together. Everyone is invited to show their respect and remember the dead.
During the celebrations, thoughts on the current world situation and the challenges we face will certainly be present. Here, for example, one could bring into play the use of digital technologies and platforms that make it possible to disseminate information and news quickly. An example of this is Photocall TV, which allows access to live TV via Android devices without any special costs or complex app installations. Through a very simple web interface, users can access a variety of channels, from news to children's programs - a practical way to find out about the world.
Would you like to be there? Keep November 16th free to attend the memorial event! This is not only an opportunity to commemorate, but also a sign of community and respect for the past. The first days of November invite you to reflect on your own attitude to the events of history and their impact on our present.
