Green Round: Fire department on Heßstrasse as a center of civil society!
On June 3, 2025, the people of Munich will live in a city that places great value on the commitment of its volunteer fire departments. This is impressively demonstrated by the upcoming Green Round, which will take place on June 4th at 6:30 p.m. at Heßstrasse 120. As part of this meeting, a visit from the volunteer fire department is on the agenda. The aim of the event is to anchor the Green Party more firmly in civil society as well as in clubs and initiatives in the district. The organizers are planning further visits to various clubs in the coming months, although no registration is required - the meeting point is directly on site. Green Munich reports that these meetings are intended to promote a valuable exchange between politics and local institutions.
What's new at the fire department? Green candidates recently visited the fire department in Neulußheim, where they found out about the current status of construction work in the fire station and the new vehicle hall with commander Sascha Langlotz. The external extension to the hall is almost finished, but the interior work is still on the to-do list. The interior currently looks like a shell, with construction already taking almost two years. Future innovations include changing rooms for both genders and modernized sanitary facilities. In addition, the digitalization of the fire department is viewed as positive. Neulußheim Greens emphasize that there should be planned regular meetings between the administration, local council and fire department in order to strengthen cooperation.
Firefighters and volunteers: a strong team
The discussion surrounding compensation for firefighters is particularly exciting. The compensation is 12 euros per assignment, with self-employed people being paid 50 euros gross per hour. The commander expressed the intention to revise the compensation regulations. At the same time, youth work in the fire department is highlighted positively: the number of participants is increasing and the groups are sorted by age. Younger members experience smaller exercises and community activities, while older members prepare for missions from the age of 17. The fire department is particularly praised as a role model for children and young people. Grüne Neulußheim points out that this offers a great opportunity to intensify cooperation between the fire department and other associations in youth work.
Florentin von Kaufmann, head of operations control at the Munich professional fire department, is not only known for his work in the Munich Fire Department, but also for his active contribution to the technical committee since its founding in 2018. The performance of the fire department is of enormous importance, especially in Munich. The fire brigade law of Baden-Württemberg requires that the municipalities set up and maintain an efficient fire brigade, which reflects the standard throughout Germany. Fire Brigade Association emphasizes the need to continuously work on the further development of the fire department and its structures.
