Shock call in Munich: Senior woman loses 70,000 euros to fraudsters!
In Munich, fraudulent callers have struck again and deprived an 80-year-old woman of her savings with a perfidious scam. On Tuesday afternoon, the woman received a call from someone claiming to be a hospital employee. The caller claimed that her son was seriously ill and urgently needed expensive treatment in Switzerland. A six-figure amount was demanded, which the senior citizen handed over in desperation - a total of around 70,000 euros to someone collecting it. It was only after the handover by telephone with her sons that she found out that she had been cheated, which was a huge shock for the lady.
The incident happened within just an hour in the Ramersdorf-Perlach district. Meanwhile, other people were also attacked. A Pasinger was also coerced with a similar shock call, but quickly recognized the fraud and immediately informed the police. Thanks to the man's information, a 16-year-old girl from the Czech Republic was finally arrested near his home. Unfortunately, such incidents are not uncommon, as call center operators specifically target older people in their vulnerable situation in order to deprive them of their savings.
Shock calls are a common scam
What exactly are shock calls? According to police, these are scams in which callers pretend to be family members or police officers. They often report a traffic accident that is so urgent that immediate payment of money is requested. This type of fraud is intended to put pressure on those called so that they make quick and rash decisions. The shock call scammers mainly target older people who are easily unsettled by such stories. This often involves several perpetrators who pass the call on to each other in order to further manipulate the victim.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has already drawn attention to these perfidious methods and is urgently warning against the callers. If you are unsure, you are advised to call the emergency number 110 and not to use the callback buttons. If you feel under pressure, you should end the conversation immediately and don't be afraid to contact relatives using known telephone numbers. Victim advice centers such as the “WEISSE RING” also offer important information and support and can be reached on the national telephone number 116 006.
