Construction work in Munich: S-Bahn disruptions on four lines until the end of November!
Good news for all commuters and S-Bahn drivers in Munich! However, passengers will have to prepare for restrictions in the coming days. Due to extensive construction work, four S-Bahn lines will be affected from Monday, November 24th to Saturday, November 29th. The tz.de reports restrictions on the lines S3, S5, S6 and S8.
It will be particularly tough for the S5, which is completely canceled these days - between Ostbahnhof and Pasing/Germering-Unterpfaffenhofen/Weßling. The S3 is also struggling with some failures, especially between Pasing and Deisenhofen. The S6 only runs every 40 minutes between Pasing and Tutzing during the day and has set up a replacement bus service between Pasing and Gauting at night. The S8 also has to live with a reduced timetable - during the day there is only a 40-minute service between Pasing and Harthaus.
A reason for the construction work
Deutsche Bahn explains that the construction work is necessary to eliminate slow speeds and thus reduce delays in S-Bahn traffic. The aim is to make the track sections completely navigable at maximum speed again and to make operations more stable.
Replacement services are planned until 7:15 a.m. for the night of November 28th to 29th. From Monday to Friday there will also be buses between Pasing and Harthaus at night.
Further effects on S-Bahn traffic
According to information from muenchen.de this is not the only construction site affecting S-Bahn traffic in Munich. A big maintenance weekend and work to renew the second main route are currently shaping the cityscape. The entire main line and the S-Bahn tracks around the Ostbahnhof are closed, and only a few lines are running, with the Ostbahnhof only being served by the S8.
There are sometimes severely limited connections for the S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S4 and S6. Replacement buses between Pasing and the main train station run every 10 minutes and stop at all train stations.
Important information for passengers
In order to provide passengers with the best possible information, information columns are set up at the bus stops and QR codes are offered for quick orientation. If you want to travel quickly between Pasing and the main train station, you can also use the S6 and regional trains. The MVG bus line 130 also offers a connection to Westendstrasse (U4/U5), with a more frequent service, especially on Saturdays.
The construction work is part of a comprehensive plan to improve Munich's S-Bahn network, which has connected the city with the surrounding area since the 1972 Olympic Games, as muenchen.de notes. In the coming years, the second main route will help to further increase capacities and reduce the susceptibility of the existing lines to failure.
Commuters should pay attention to the changes and consider alternative transport connections if necessary. A little patience and planning in advance can save a lot of stress!
