10,000 euro reward: Who knows Ulrich Zilker from Obermenzing?

In Munich, the police are faced with a mysterious case that is causing a stir. 62-year-old Ulrich Zilker was found dead in his apartment on Keyserlingstrasse in Obermenzing on July 7, 2025. An autopsy revealed that massive violence was the cause of death, and investigators have now officially classified it as a homicide. In order to shed light on the matter, the State Criminal Police Office is offering a reward of 10,000 euros for information that leads to solving the case. This is reported by the South German newspaper.

Zilker lived in seclusion in a single-family house in Obermenzing and also owned an apartment on Keferloherstrasse in Milbertshofen. His neighbors hardly knew him because he was often considered reserved and lived alone. Zilker's last sign of life was a phone call with an acquaintance on June 15th. When she reported him missing on July 7, the police took action and, with the help of the fire department, broke down the door of his apartment, where they discovered the badly decomposed body.

Homicide investigations

The newly founded “Keyserling” investigative group has now started its work and consists of around 20 officers who are urgently looking for witnesses who knew Zilker. The investigators are particularly interested in information about his private environment. According to the TZ, there are some challenges. Zilker lived practically inconspicuously, had no known relatives, no car and no cell phone. This makes searching for clues particularly difficult.

Traces of blood were found at the crime scene, but investigators are faced with the question of whether there was a break-in. The deputy head of K11, Mathias Heidtmann, has ruled out an accident and stated that there was no gunshot wound. The situation appears tense and the police are appealing for public help to shed light on the matter.

Murder statistics in Germany

The Zilker case also sheds light on the general murder statistics in Germany. Between 2014 and 2024, several hundred murder cases were registered annually, with the numbers playing a significant role in the country's security situation, according to the BKA. Many of these cases could not be solved immediately, which underlines the current situation in the Zilker case even more. The comprehensive statistics are available online and offer interesting insights into crime in Germany. Further information can be found at Statista.

The investigators are doing everything they can to solve the Zilker case. Anyone who knows anything about the deceased or the frightening circumstances surrounding his death is urged to contact the Munich police on +49 (0)89 2910-0 or any police station. The residents of Obermenzing and Milbertshofen are particularly called upon to share information that could help solve the case.
