New MVG timetable from December 14th: Important changes for Munich!
On December 14, 2025, there will be major changes to local public transport for Munich residents. The Munich Transport Company (MVG) is introducing a new timetable that not only increases capacity on individual bus and tram lines, but also adjusts some usual routes. One of the most important innovations is the increase in capacity on the popular line 27, which now runs with four-car vehicles between Petuelring and Sendlinger Tor. The focus will continue to be on demand and attempts will be made to meet the needs of passengers through appropriate adjustments to the timetables. The MVG recommends that interested passengers consult the timetables and departure times before the new regulation. Further information is available on mvg.de and available in the MVGO app.
The night bus route N71 will also be receiving a special update, which will run on a shortened route between Dessauerstrasse/Olympia shopping center and Ludwigsfeld from December 14th due to lower demand. There are also some developments in the bus lines: Bus 57 runs every 10 minutes on Sundays between Hörweg and the Freiham S-Bahn station. In addition to these innovations, other bus routes such as routes 130 and 190 have also undergone adjustments that focus on the use of articulated buses.
Important stop adjustments
New stops will also be introduced by December 14th, including the new “Klärwerk Gut Großlaufen” stop for lines 181 and 182. There are also adjustments to the “Olympiapark Eissportstadion” stop, which now bears the name “Olympiapark Ost” for lines 173 and N76. The “Am Tucherpark” stop on line 54 will be eliminated due to construction work, while the MVG museum line will have a new route between Odeonsplatz and Pinakotheken via Brienner Straße and Karolinenplatz. This brings welcome relief for those interested in art and culture. The changes from urban development and the new residential areas are reflected in the timetables when it comes to bus transport.
Minor adjustments in the minute range also affect other subway, tram and bus lines. The U6 amplifier trips are postponed by two minutes from Monday to Saturday to enable a more consistent cycle. However, there are also some restrictions in the bus sector, as some amplifier trips on certain lines, such as Bus 56 and CityRing 58/68, have been canceled, possibly due to financial aspects and less demand. The timetables will also be posted at the stops until Sunday so that passengers can find their way around easily.
View of the new tram line
Another highlight is imminent with the new tram line 14, which is expected to go into operation from February 27, 2026. This will run every ten minutes between Pasing train station and Gondrellplatz and thus offer an important connection to lines 18 and 19 as well as to the U5 at Laimer Platz.
For many Munich passengers, the new timetable will bring a noticeable improvement. But as always: To be on the safe side, you should use the MVG's electronic timetable information, which is available on muenchen.de be offered. This allows the start and destination to be entered and current departure times and journey durations to be quickly retrieved.
Overall, the new timetables have the potential to significantly improve the travel experience on Munich's local transport and make switching between different modes of transport more fluid. The MVG also shows that it is taking the change in conditions in the city seriously and is committed to passengers.
