Shock in Munich: Man touches 13-year-old in Maxvorstadt!
A worrying incident made headlines in Munich. A 13-year-old student was touched on the breast by a 32-year-old Eritrean in Maxvorstadt on Friday. The attack occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Elisenstrasse while the girl was on the way with a classmate and a teacher. The student reacted promptly by slapping the man's hand away, whereupon he fled with a companion. However, thanks to a manhunt launched immediately, the police were able to arrest the suspect just an hour later. He was identified by camera footage in the Old Botanical Garden, although he had changed his clothes after the attack. After the arrest, the man was transferred to the police headquarters detention center and an investigating judge issued an arrest warrant against him on Saturday. ( Day24 reported.)
These shocking events are not isolated. Just recently, a woman was harassed on a regional train to Munich on Wednesday evening. The approximately 25-year-old perpetrator, who boarded the train in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, sat behind the woman and sexually harassed her. When the train pulled into Munich, the man fled towards the subway area of the main station while the woman called the police emergency number. When the federal police arrived, the perpetrator had already escaped. The shocking acts shed a bright light on the alarming trend in sexual crimes, which, according to statistical surveys, has been increasing in Germany for years. ( Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.)
Increase in sexual crimes
The worrying trends in the area of sexual offenses cannot be overlooked. In 2024, a new high of around 128,000 cases was registered. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) attributes this to increased sensitivity and willingness to report cases, but points to a large number of unreported cases where many cases remain undetected. Victims are often traumatized and reluctant to report crimes. Statistics show that about 91 percent of sexual crime victims are female. Adolescents and young women between the ages of 14 and 20 are particularly at risk. ( Statista reports.)
This situation highlights the urgent need to further raise awareness of sexual violence and strengthen preventive measures. Every time such an incident occurs, we also have a social responsibility to question existing thought patterns and actively fight for the protection of all people. This is the only way we can create a safe environment for our young people and protect them from these heinous acts.
