Summer Literature Festival in Munich: Readings and music in the Monacensia Garden!

Munich, the city of stories, once again offers a special highlight for literature enthusiasts: On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the Literature Summer Festival will take place in the idyllic garden of the Monacensia. From 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., visitors can not only enjoy the city's green oasis, but also immerse themselves in the world of books with exciting readings and a musical closing program. This is announced by in-muenchen.de.

How real is Munich? This question is at the heart of the summer festival, which invites guests to explore the different facets of the city - be it the cozy, the green or the glittering. Six authors will give readings from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Included are, among others, Daniel Bayerstorfer, Uisenma Borchu, Jan Geiger, Lena Gorelik, Volha Hapeyeva and Elvira Steppacher. The topics covered are diverse and range from the effects of poverty in a wealthy city to queer self-image in urban spaces and the influence of anti-racist movements on the cityscape.

Music and enjoyment in an atmospheric ambience

From 7:30 p.m. the festival will be accompanied by music from “Lucile and the Rakibuam”, who will create a relaxed atmosphere with their electronic folk sound. If you want to enhance the sunshine feeling, don't forget to bring a picnic blanket. And best of all: entry is free and registration is not required! The Munich City Museum is responsible for the organization and the supporting program with a thematic connection to the interim exhibition “What the City. Perspectives of our City”.

Another highlight of the festival could be the particularly versatile Hans Pleschinski. The author, who was born in Celle in 1956, now lives in Munich and has produced an impressive range of works, including bestsellers such as “Königsallee” and “Wiesenstein”. His novel “The Bottle” was most recently published in 2023. Pleschinski, who is also known as a theater and radio producer, makes the Munich soul vibrate with his stories. He is very popular in the literary scene and promises, if he is present, to deliver a particularly engaging reading contribution. Further information about Hans Pleschinski and his works can be found at muenchen.de.

A day dedicated to literature, surrounded by a picturesque backdrop, promises to be an unforgettable experience for all Munich residents and their guests. Further details and current information can also be found at literaturseiten-muenchen.de. So pack your blankets and get ready for an afternoon full of stories and unforgettable sounds!
