Streaming revolution in Berg am Laim: Now also available after meetings!

A new step towards digitization takes shape: The district committee (BA) Berg am Laim wants to expand its streaming offer. From June 2025, the live recordings of the sessions are now also available in a media library, such as hello-muenchen.de reported. The recordings are available for six weeks at www.ba14.de.

The spokesman for the FW/ÖDP parliamentary group, Stefan Hofmeir, is optimistic: he expects the number of spectators to increase significantly by the media library. So far, between 30 and 50 spectators have been watching the sessions live, with particularly explosive topics there were even up to 122. In order to offer the audience a better overview, index points are to be integrated into the records by the end of 2025. These enable faster access to the different agenda points.

hybrid sessions: a test run

In the context of these developments, the BA Berg am Laim also tests hybrid sessions. In this way, the technical space in the technical town hall is used for such models. As sueddeutsche.de were already present at the test run, whereby two participants were present online. The aim is to give bodies the opportunity to get together both on site and virtually.

But not every district is the same with this digital transformation: The neighboring district of Trudering still has to deal with disagreements regarding hybrid sessions. BA 15 boss Stefan Ziegler (CSU) expresses concerns about the complexity of such processes. At least the BA 15 plans to hold some sub -committees hybrid before the entire committee follows.

legal foundations for digital participation

The legal framework for digital participations in such sessions are also redesigned. As Staatsanzeiger.de has already decided a draft law that makes it easier to prevent municipal sessions. So far, participation was only possible for serious reasons, but digital indications can also take place in the future.

It is important that the municipalities adapt their main statute to enable digital council meetings. The cities can therefore not only stream public sessions, but also publish them as a video cast. This could enormously promote transparency and citizen participation in the municipal politics.

Overall, it can be seen that digitization in Munich plays an increasingly central role in municipal events. With the new offers and formats, the encouragement and participation of the citizens: Inside, noticeably increase what is absolutely beneficial for democracy and local participation.
