New Baumschule Laim subway station: Fresh design for Munich!

A unanimous vote for the new Baumschule Laim subway station: The Laim district committee has now officially approved the design concept. Collaboration with the respected Munich architectural firm allmannwappner promises that the new station will not only be functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

What is particularly exciting is the inclusion of the traditional Laim tree nursery, which has shaped the cityscape for over 80 years. The design will integrate the typical tree rows of small plants into the wall cladding of the barrier floor, using structured ceramic elements. Harmonious green tones reminiscent of fresh leaves dominate the entrances, while a stylized canopy of metal leaves hovers over the entrances.

A bright room for everyone

The platform itself is designed as a bright space that reflects the atmosphere of the nursery. Special glazing techniques are used on exposed concrete. In addition, elegant tree silhouettes made of stainless steel will provide a further eye-catcher in prominent places. Well-thought-out lighting will create a friendly atmosphere both on the barrier floor and along the platform.

Accessibility is a top priority here: the new subway station will be easily accessible from both sides of the street, with two exits to the Gotthardstrasse/Reutterstrasse and Willibaldstrasse intersections. Three elevators, four escalators and six stairs are also planned to ensure the mobility of all passengers.

Insight for citizens

From June 25th, interested citizens can view the documents on the architectural concept in the U5 information center, Willibaldstrasse 70. The information center is open on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is best reached by bus line 57, stop Mitterfeldstraße.

The redesign of the Baumschule Laim subway station is part of a broader plan to modernize the Munich subway network, which has already been implemented for some time. How ubahtnbau-munich reports, not only will the U5 be expanded to Pasing and extended to Freiham, but the subway as a whole will also be further developed so that around 30 percent of the journeys in Munich can be covered by public transport by 2030.

Investments in modern, resource-saving mobility are a key priority, and the subway plays a key role in this. New cross-connections between the lines and extensions beyond the city limits are also on the plan. The Baumschule Laim subway station is not only a new stop, but also a further step into the future of mobility in Munich.
