Fight for cleanliness and elevators: Haderner stars in revolt!

In Munich, at Haderner Stern, residents of their residential complex are fed up: dirt, pigeon droppings and broken elevators make life there a daily challenge. The tenants' initiative has already contacted the Hadern district committee to draw attention to the precarious conditions. But support from the Bavarian Supply Chamber, the owner of the facility, has so far been lacking. “We currently don’t have time to communicate with the tenants’ initiative,” the chamber said, which only further frustrates those affected.

Derya Bozaba-Baylaz from the SPD then organized a night walk to inspect the situation on site. But during the walk, the feared confrontations with young people in the stairwell did not occur. “Despite the claims, there were no meeting places for groups,” explained a resident. The district committee is now examining whether help can be obtained from the Ministry of the Interior through Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich. However, according to the Bavarian Supply Chamber, the residential complex made a “good impression” during a recent inspection – something that can be seen as critical.

Elevator problem and cleanliness

The residential complex's elevators play a significant role in the tenants' dissatisfaction. The smaller elevator in house number 39 has been out of service since the end of April 2025, while the larger elevator in house number 35 has not been operational since August 2024. These problems are particularly serious for older people or people with disabilities. Bright spot: Tenants can use the elevator at number 35, but only for certain floors. A signature campaign is now calling for the elevators to be repaired immediately.

The tenants feel abandoned, also due to the growing pollution in the complex. According to the company, this is partly caused by residents of other facilities. The owner has taken measures to counteract the pigeon problem, but relies on the tenants' cooperation - for example by asking them to stop feeding the pigeons. With this in mind, cleanliness continues to be a hot topic.

Seniors and neighborhood concepts

How important a functioning and clean living environment is for older people is shown not least by the collaboration between initiatives such as Haderner Stern. Lectures and events are offered here to support seniors in their concerns. With topics such as safety, health and care, attempts are made to counteract loneliness in old age and to maintain social contacts. Events such as neighborhood meetings with coffee and cake ensure a social atmosphere.

The Free State of Bavaria also promotes senior-friendly neighborhood concepts that are intended to meet the needs of older people. These concepts rely on accessibility and good infrastructure to enable a self-determined life. Support through everyday assistance and social networks are central components that can give new impetus to social life. Such offers help older people to go about their everyday lives safely and securely in their living spaces and thus not to be left behind.

The current developments at Haderner Stern are an example of how important communication between tenants and owners is. Only through an open ear and active help can an improvement in living conditions in the residential complex be achieved.
