Bee epidemic in Munich: exclusion zone set up for Forstenried!
The bee world in Munich is currently looking a bit gloomy. As the City of Munich reported, the dreaded American foulbrood was officially diagnosed on October 24, 2025 in the Munich district, specifically in Forstenrieder Park. This spells trouble for local beekeepers and a call for caution.
A restricted area with a radius of at least one kilometer around the site of the outbreak was immediately set up. Beekeepers in the Forstenried district are now also called upon to be vigilant. In order to ensure the well-being of bees, the state capital of Munich issued a general decree on October 31, 2025. This was published on the city's official homepage and in the next official gazette.
Drastic measures
A strict ban applies in the restricted area: no bee colonies, live or dead bees, honeycomb or even wax and honey may be brought into or out of this area. This is intended to help prevent the disease from spreading further. Beekeepers are encouraged to closely monitor symptoms of American foulbrood and, if in doubt, to contact the city veterinary office.
The good news: People and other animals are not affected by this bee disease. Consuming honey from affected stands is also safe, but it is important that honey is not fed to bees all year round. If you don't follow the rules, you should know that honey containers may only be washed out well or disposed of in the dish container. Otherwise, open containers could attract bees.
Support for bees
The City Veterinary Office would like to expressly thank the people of Munich for their support in maintaining healthy bee hives. Beekeepers are asked to be particularly vigilant and follow the guidelines to protect the bee population in the region.
In a completely different impasse comes the Enem 2025, an important test in Brazil. This will take place on November 9th and 16th, and participants must use the “Cartão de Confirmação de Inscrição” to verify their exam location, like Inep reveals. In this time of change and challenges, be it in agriculture or the education sector, it is essential to stay informed and take the next steps in a targeted manner.
Whether it's about bee protection or education - one thing is clear: there is a lot to consider and take action in Munich and beyond. Stay tuned and support the efforts for a healthy ecosystem, both through mindful beekeeping and involvement in education!
