Tram to Daglfing: dream or permanent bottleneck for Munich?

What's happening in Munich's local transport? The idea of a tram connection from Berg am Laim S-Bahn station to Daglfing is causing discussion. According to unser-bogenhausen.de, the city council laid the foundation stone at the end of July by presenting a feasibility study. Representatives of Stadtwerke München (SWM) firmly believe in the feasibility of this project. There is an exciting route on the table that leads via Hultschiner Straße under the motorway and could run via Eggenfeldener to Rappelhofstraße and on to the turning loop at the supermarket.

But there are also some hurdles. The motorway underpass turns out to be too narrow for the trams and therefore needs to be widened. There are also uncertainties regarding the load-bearing capacity of the bridge on Rappelhofstrasse. An alternative route via Riemerstrasse and Rennbahnstrasse could also be considered, which runs close to a planned school campus. Despite the promising ideas, financing and feasibility remain questionable - especially given the city's strained financial situation.

Public transport development and digital functions

This is also where mvv-muenchen.de comes into play. MVV offers interested developers the opportunity to integrate digital functions such as 'MVV information' on their own websites. This provision of data and interfaces for public transport and mobility is free of charge, which is intended to promote innovative applications. However, it is important to comply with the game rules and the license terms in order to ensure proper use.

A step into the digital future is also the electronic timetable information, which is available on muenchen.de. It allows users to easily plan their trips in Munich and the surrounding area. No matter whether S-Bahn, subway, tram or bus – the EFA can be used in a variety of ways. Entering the start and destination as well as departure or arrival times is very easy, and the approximate travel costs are also displayed.

A look into the future

If you compare the plans for the Daglfing tram with other planned projects in Munich, it becomes clear that not all projects go smoothly. For example, they originally wanted to extend the tram along Johanneskirchner Straße. But this project was stopped and would have cost over 60 million euros. So the question remains: Will the Daglfing tram ever become a reality or will it remain a vision? Only time and the upcoming decisions of the city council will tell.
