Serious accident in Landshut: Four injured after a frontal crash!

A serious traffic accident shook the Landshut district on June 11, 2025. At around 4:40 p.m. there was a crash on Moosburger Straße between Niedererlbach and Obererlbach. A Nissan Micra, driven by a 35-year-old woman, and a Ford B-Max, in which a 33-year-old driver, her 35-year-old husband and their 12-year-old child were sitting, were involved. Unfortunately, the accident did not go smoothly.

The Nissan driver lost control of her vehicle in a left-hand bend and crossed into the oncoming lane. There was a head-on collision with the Ford, which had devastating consequences. The 35-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be flown to a Munich clinic in a rescue helicopter. The occupants of the Ford B-Max were not spared either: they suffered serious injuries, but fortunately their lives were out of danger. The fire department was deployed to free the Nissan driver from her vehicle, which required some effort from the rescuers.

Rescue operations and investigations

The involvement of the fire brigade was essential for the rescue measures. After the injured were cared for, the accident site was closed until around 8:15 p.m. in order not to hinder the investigation by the Landshut public prosecutor's office. They commissioned an accident analysis report to clarify the exact circumstances and causes of the accident. The material damage to the vehicles is not insignificant; both suffered a total economic loss.

Traffic statistics and road safety

Such tragic incidents are unfortunately part of a larger problem that Germany is currently facing. According to the information from destatis.de There were a total of around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in Germany in 2023, with the number of accidents constantly increasing. The traffic accident statistics are therefore not only important for special incidents, but also as a starting point for legislation and measures on the traffic safety situation.

A look at the causes of accidents shows that insufficient distance, inadequate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol are among the most common causes. In 2023 alone, around 15,700 alcohol-related accidents were listed, which cost 193 people their lives and resulted in 18,686 injuries. This illustrates how important awareness-raising and education are in traffic education in order to make the roads safer.

If you look at the development over the decades, it is noticeable that the number of traffic deaths fell from 19,193 in 1970 to 2,839 in 2023. However, if you consider the continuously increasing number of traffic, the challenge for traffic safety remains high. With its “Vision Zero”, the European Union aims to achieve zero traffic deaths by 2050.

Given current developments and statistics, it is important that we keep moving to increase safety on our roads. Increasing awareness and responsibility, not only among drivers, but also among cyclists and other road users, is crucial. Ultimately, we are all responsible for ensuring safe coexistence on the roads.
