The festive season is approaching and preparations for the legendary Munich Christmas market are in full swing. From November 24th to December 24th, 2025, Marienplatz in the Altstadt-Lehel will be transformed into a true Christmas wonderland. As the Central Office for Traffic Management Bavaria reported, significant traffic disruptions and traffic jams are to be expected during this time. Road users should therefore pay attention to the signs and follow the instructions of the traffic police.
The city also recommends finding out about routes and the parking situation in advance. Using Park & Ride offers and traveling by public transport are particularly advisable to avoid unnecessary stress in Christmas traffic.
Diverse program for young and old
The Christmas market has more to offer than just mulled wine and gingerbread. On the decorated stands you will find a variety of handmade Christmas gifts and traditional delicacies. Here, visitors can look forward to Bavarian parlor music, wind ensembles and choirs.
A highlight especially for the little ones is the heavenly workshop, which is available from November 27th to December 14th for children between the ages of six and twelve. Safety comes first
The safety of visitors is the top priority. The Munich Police has not identified any increased threat potential this year, based on the proven security concepts of previous years. Uniformed and civilian emergency services will be present at the markets. The newly introduced control of the knife ban will also be strictly observed from now on.
In order to increase security, a total of 17 cameras are used to monitor the city area, and the security concept is being further developed in close cooperation with the responsible security authorities. Concrete elements and other technical security measures, which were planned in collaboration with the police and fire department, provide additional protection.
