In Munich the current motto is: traffic jam ahead! Drivers must expect significant traffic delays until October 2, 2025. The reason is extensive maintenance work, which above all... Karls roundel in the old town-Lehel. This leads to a narrowing of the road, which brings with it increased traffic and occasional traffic jams.
The measures, which began on June 10, 2025, extend to two central construction sites in the city:
- Baustelle 1: Im Bereich des Karls-Rondells, zwischen Josephspitalstraße und Lenbachplatz, auf einer Länge von 131 Metern.
- Baustelle 2: Am Karlsplatz (Stachus) von Elisenstraße bis Bayerstraße, mit einer Länge von 158 Metern.
Further construction sites and restrictions
But it's not just the Karls Rondell that's being worked on in Munich. Traffic is also being affected by construction sites in other places. At Englschalkinger Straße 61 to 65 in Bogenhausen, Stadtwerke München is carrying out work on the power grid, which will last until August 29, 2025. One lane will be eliminated here, but the path will remain passable for pedestrians and cyclists stadt.muenchen.de reported.
In Forstenried, a complete closure must be expected immediately on Forstenrieder Allee between Züricher Straße and Filchnerstraße, while the laying of a district heating pipe in the road area is expected to last until August 1st.
The goal: a better road network
All of these maintenance, new construction and expansion measures are necessary to keep the road network in Munich in perfect condition. The increase in traffic demand requires additional measures so that everything can run smoothly again on Munich's roads in the future.
The city of Munich asks all road users for understanding and patience during the coming months. Use alternative routes where possible and allow enough time to avoid traffic jams. Ultimately, we all benefit from a well-maintained transport network - even if the diversions and construction sites now pose a challenge.
