Serious accident on A 99: Driver in hospital, truck driver unharmed
On the afternoon of October 13, 2025, a serious accident occurred between a truck and a silver Peugeot on the A 99 motorway, after the Allacher Tunnel in the direction of Salzburg. According to Newsflash24, the 43-year-old driver of the Peugeot was injured, while the 29-year-old truck driver was fortunately uninjured. The two vehicles collided sideways in the middle lane, causing significant traffic delays.
It took the emergency services on site, including around 30 firefighters, around 50 minutes to free the driver from his vehicle. He remained seated in the car during the rescue operation and was later transported to a Munich clinic with a spinal board. The emergency doctor assessed his injury as moderate. The fire department has not yet released any information about the cause of the accident or the amount of damage.
Accident statistics and social responsibility
The number of accidents in Bavaria remains a hot topic. A total of 388,817 traffic accidents were registered in 2023, an increase of 3.5% compared to the previous year. Particularly noteworthy are the statistics from the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, which show that the number of traffic deaths in the Free State fell by 20 to a total of 500. However, at the same time the number of injuries rose by 0.9% to 62,359.
Another point is the burden of cyclist accidents. The trend shows that cyclist safety remains a problem, although the number of cycling accidents has fallen slightly. The measures called for by the Greens to expand cycle paths could play a decisive role here. For this purpose, a Bavarian cycling law was announced, which is intended to create around 1,500 kilometers of new cycle paths by 2030.
Challenges and measures
The increase in traffic density in Bavaria, which was influenced by the registration of around 120,000 new cars in 2023, also comes with challenges. The number of accidents under the influence of drugs rose slightly and the discussion about the legalization of cannabis is gaining momentum. Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann expressed concerns and criticized the possibility that this could further impact safety on the roads.
The traffic accident statistics for 2024 is pleased with a decrease in traffic deaths to 495. However, the increase in the number of cyclists who died in road traffic from 85 to 94 raises questions and illustrates the need for action. Targeted measures to improve road safety have been announced for 2025, including increased speed controls and a focus on alcohol and drug-related driving impairments.
Overall, the traffic situation in Bavaria remains tense. The statistics are worrying and show that every road user should take a certain level of responsibility for road safety. Together we must work towards making the roads safer.
