Siemens is investing 250 million euros: a new beginning in Munich-Allach!

Siemens Mobility has set up a large project in Munich-Allach. With an investment of 250 million euros, one of the most modern production facilities for rail vehicles in Europe will be created here. This expansion is accompanied by the creation of over 500 new jobs and a doubling of the production area to more than 100,000 m². The total number of employees at the location will increase to around 2,500 Railway Gazette reported.

The factory in Allach, which is considered the central production facility for Vectron locomotives, has already proven itself to be excellent. Since it went into operation, over 1,700 four-axle locomotives have been manufactured there, with a total of over 2,700 orders. Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter emphasizes that the efficiency and innovation of this expansion contributes to the competitiveness of manufacturing in Germany. He emphasizes that the Vectron platform has been revolutionizing the locomotive business for 15 years.

Technological innovations and increased efficiency

A look at the numbers shows that the production rate of Vectron locomotives has increased significantly - from 90 locomotives per year in 2015 to now 385. In the future, the factory will even be able to produce one finished locomotive and three locomotive cables per day. These figures demonstrate increased efficiency and technological development, which also includes new tools such as laser welding technology and digital software solutions, reports Railway Technology.

Particularly noteworthy is the introduction of Railigent X, a data and analysis software for locomotive performance monitoring. Thanks to these digital innovations, locomotives will in future be able to be serviced remotely, which not only increases efficiency but also ensures less downtime. Additionally, heavy maintenance capacity will be tripled by the end of 2026, increasing the number of locomotive overhauls carried out annually from 24 to 80, it is reported.

New perspectives for mobility

As part of the expansion, the production of Vectouro passenger cars is also planned in Allach, with a potential of up to 180 cars per year. The production of all of these Vectron-based products at one location is a milestone that has a positive impact on many people. The new service center will provide four new maintenance tracks and specialized workshops for bogies and wheelsets almost simultaneously, making the location even more central to our European mobility.

Of course, Siemens remains committed to Germany as a location with such innovative steps. In this context, Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG, emphasizes that more than 85% of the components of the Vectron family are common between the different types. This contributes to the ease of maintenance and adaptability of the locomotives, making them highly sought after in the industry. According to Forbes, Siemens itself is one of the 100 largest companies in the world and is continually improving its position.

The expansion in Allach shows that Siemens has a good hand when it comes to the future of mobility. The combination of modern technology approaches, intelligent design and a clear focus on the digital requirements of tomorrow is promising. Everyone agrees: investments are not only being made in infrastructure, but also in the future of transport in Europe.
