Munich's vacancy map: Where there is now a lot of free space!

Munich has a well-known problem with regard to vacant spaces and buildings. To counteract this, the city has published an interactive map that shows all the spaces in the different parts of the city that have been reported as vacant. This map can be accessed via the city's website tz.de can be accessed and directs users to the city's economic development website, where further information is provided.

A total of ten areas are marked on the map that are marked “FREE”. What is particularly striking is that four of these areas are in the city center, where the market situation absolutely needs to be addressed. Some exemplary vacant areas are the office building at Rindermarkt 7 with 25 m², a location on Neuhauser Straße with 172 m², an area in Maxvorstadt with 342 m² and a spacious area in Thalkirchen with 466 m². This clearly shows that there is something going on!

Vacancy management as a solution

In order to counteract these problems, the city's vacancy management aims to systematically reduce unused space. Contacts are actively established between owners and potential users. Citizens are cordially invited to report vacant spaces online and thus contribute to improving the situation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the attractiveness of city centers and prevent a possible loss of attractiveness.

The Vacancy management includes measures to shorten vacancy periods and supports the development of city centers. It acts as a central contact point for companies looking for a location and ensures that inquiries regarding vacant commercial properties are systematically managed. Active location management is also carried out, which aims to avoid misuse and trading down effects.

By recording and managing available space, the city not only wants to actively combat vacancies, but also promote the identification of concept providers for existing vacant properties in order to improve the supply profile. These strategic measures are crucial in order to continue to make Munich's cityscape attractive in the future.
