Citizens are fighting to preserve the popular Blaustern restaurant!

There is currently a lot of excitement in Sendling: the traditional club restaurant Blaustern on Wackersbergerstrasse is facing the threat of closure. Around 60 citizens have already come together to protest the loss of this important social meeting place. The concerns about the closure are not unfounded, as many fear for the social structure in the district. As the tz reported that the number of listeners at the last meeting of the Sendlingen district committee was remarkably high because it was about the closure.

A significant decision by the city council two years ago led to this situation: According to this, new plans for the district sports facilities in the city have resulted in sports restaurants no longer being permitted. The aim of this measure is to create space for modern training and changing rooms. However, critics are calling for the restaurant to be retained and argue that the space on Wackersbergerstrasse is large enough for expansion without endangering social life in the district.

Protest for preservation

In the midst of this discussion, Rudolf Gartner, a regular at Blaustern, has already initiated a petition to preserve the restaurant. In a very short time he collected over 2,000 signatures. Gartner describes Blaustern as a valuable social meeting place, especially for older people and families. “This is where people come together and maintain their community,” says Gartner. Landlord Mladen Balta also expresses his concerns about the closure plans and hopes for clarity about the future of the restaurant.

The city's current plans suggest that the Blaustern could be replaced by a kiosk, adding to citizens' concerns. This project is part of a comprehensive sports construction program by the Department of Education and Sport, which was unanimously approved by the city council. The preliminary planning is expected to take over two years and will also examine the possibility of maintaining the catering services, as the RBS states. However, this could not happen without changes, which worries citizens.

An important place for the community

The Blaustern is not just a restaurant; It is an important part of the community in Sendling. Many people feel connected here: “There is always someone you can talk to,” says Gartner. The district committee also voted unanimously in favor of preserving the restaurant, where it is seen as an important part of social life. But time is running out and citizens hope that their voices will be heard.

The hour of fate for the Blaustern has not yet come, but the discussions and protests show that the citizens want to fight to preserve their valued restaurant. Whether these efforts will be successful remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the citizens of Sendling stand together to defend their social center.
