Wolt opens virtual supermarket: Fast delivery for Munich!

The people of Munich are happy about the latest achievement in the city: Wolt, the Danish food delivery service, is bringing its first virtual supermarket to Bavaria. After the provider has already opened numerous locations in German cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Cologne, Munich is now the tenth location in Germany. The opening of this new supermarket means a significant relief for everyone who lives in the districts of Sendling, Laim, Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, Pasing, Schwabing-West, Moosach and Au-Haidhausen and relies on the delivery service.

Wolt specializes in delivering its range of around 5,000 items quickly. On average, the ordered goods arrive at your doorstep within just 35 minutes. Customers can choose from a wide range of products, including frozen and fresh foods, baked goods, household items, drugstore products, and toys and pet supplies. Regionality is very important at Wolt: these include, for example, the organic butchery Pichler and the roastery Man Versus Machine. The popular Eizbach lemonades are also on offer.

Opening times and pre-orders

The new Wolt Markets will operate from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. User-friendliness is very important here, as customers only need an account with a stored payment method to place their orders. Pre-scheduling deliveries makes it easy to order in advance.

For the opening phase, app users can benefit from special promotions, including free deliveries in the first few weeks. These offers encourage Munich residents to try out the new service and use it as a practical addition to their daily shopping.

A growing market

Wolt's expansion comes in an environment where online grocery delivery has boomed, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic. Sales increased by almost 52 percent, which attracted many new startups. Providers such as Flink, Gorillas and Getir entered the German market and thus expanded the offering for consumers. The market for food delivery services is now very diverse and includes large players, including Wolt, which has been part of the US group Door Dash since 2022.

The competition never sleeps: Just Eat Takeaway.com and other large providers are trying to establish themselves in this fragmented market. Lieferando is considered the most popular delivery service in Germany and could even act as the German Instacart, which has already seen great success in the USA.

These developments suggest that Munich residents not only have new shopping options, but they can also enjoy the benefits of food delivered quickly and conveniently. Wolt brings a breath of fresh air to the region, and it will be exciting to see how the citizens of Munich will react to this new service.
