Massive S-Bahn failures in Munich: construction site until November 10th!

In Munich the motto at the moment is “Stop, stop!”. The reason is extensive construction work on the second main line of the S-Bahn, which began on October 31st and will have an impact on S-Bahn traffic until November 10th. [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/bayern/bauarbeiter-auf-2-stammleitung-muenchen-ausfaelle-und-umleitungs-anfang-november-02-11-2025-112701529) reports that the route between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke will be closed for the next ten days.

The work includes the installation of switches and signals that are necessary to increase the frequency between Pasing and Heimeranplatz. But the restrictions are massive for commuters and travelers. The affected S-Bahn lines are the S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7 and S8. In order to relieve the burden on passengers, Deutsche Bahn has set up a replacement bus service, but the detours will not be easy for many.

Well informed on the way

The S3, S5, S7 and S8 go to Ostbahnhof, while the S2 runs between Hackerbrücke and Ostbahnhof. Particular attention is being paid to the S1: These trains currently reach their terminus in Moosach, from where the U3 offers a good connection to the city center. Practical, right? However, there are sometimes lengthy deviations for the other lines. For example, the S4 trains that go to Geltendorf now start in Pasing, and some trains are canceled completely.

Deutsche Bahn recommends that travelers find out about timetables and the current status of construction work online in advance. The *Munich Navigator* and other apps provide useful information for this. In addition, customer dialogue is available daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. via the telephone number(089) 55 89 26 65accessible, which is particularly helpful for FAQ answers.

The next steps

But that's not the end of the story. Most restrictions will occur over the fall holidays, and even more closures are expected in November. According to Deutsche Bahn, there will be ongoing construction work and replacement services until the beginning of December in order to renew the infrastructure and stabilize the timetables. You won't be overjoyed if you rely on the diversions, but the anticipation of the modernized route could alleviate some frustration.

Practice has shown that such construction measures are always a challenge, but Deutsche Bahn has the goal of making the S-Bahn in Munich fit for the future. Although the road ahead may be rocky, there is hope that lasting changes will have a positive impact on ride quality and punctuality.

So, dear Munich residents, be prepared and plan your trips well. With this in mind - the construction period will pass, and the S-Bahn will hopefully work like a charm again afterwards! Let's see whether the construction work will actually bear fruit.
