New tram-west tangent for Munich: sustainable mobility from 2025!
In the west of Munich, a lot is happening: the new tram-West tangent is slowly taking shape. As the Augsburger Allgemeine , the route will play a decisive role in future local transport. The opening of the first section is planned for December 2025. This new line reacts to the constantly increasing need for sustainable mobility in the western city center and is intended to create a long -term connection between the novel square in Nymphenburg and Aidenbachstrasse in Obersendling.
The route is run over Wotanstraße, Fürstenrieder Straße and Boschetsrieder Straße to Ratzingerplatz and includes a total length of around 8.3 kilometers. 17 new stops are planned, which will expand the existing tram network by around 10%. From the end of 2025, line 14 will run between Pasing and Gondrellplatz. There will also be a cross-connection through five districts: Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, Laim, Hader, Sendling-Westpark and Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Solln.
extensive infrastructure measures
The commissioning of the west tangent is, however, bound to the conclusion of extensive management. The necessary renewal and implementation of the main water pipe in Fürstenrieder Straße must also be completed in advance. The city of Munich and the Munich Stadtwerke are doing everything they can to advance the tram and subway projects, even if the budget situation is tense. According to Munich's city website , the city is determined to open up alternative sources of financing in order to avoid delays and to improve the infrastructure.
But not everything that has to do with the tram is smooth. Last Saturday there was a serious incident in the Pasing district: a driver overlooked a tram while turning and there was a collision. Two people were sometimes seriously injured and the driver was caught in the vehicle. The fire brigade had to intervene with hydraulic devices to free it. Despite the dramatic situation, two passengers were able to leave the car independently. As the train blog station , the driver was brought to a nearby clinic, while the tram driver needed medical help.
a huge step into the future
The planned tram projects testify to the striving for the city to continuously expand the local transport network. The expansion of the subway, especially the U5 from Laimer Platz to Pasing, is on schedule. The subway is also further modernized and barrier-free. The city of Munich has developed into a pioneer in Germany, because only here and in Nuremberg are tram and subway networks expanded at the same time.
The next time promises to be exciting if the west tangent puts its plans into practice and at the same time progresses the constant modernization of Munich local transport. It is to be hoped that the projects will be promoted quickly and that the citizens will soon be able to benefit from the improvements.
