Cinema 2025: These blockbusters await us in the big film autumn!

What's new in the cinemas? The fall of 2025 will bring an exciting range of film highlights streaming onto the screens of Munich cinemas. From epic sequels to gripping new releases, the cinema year ends with a bang.

The cinema is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: it is 130 years old. But even though the history of many cinemas is rich in tradition, the industry is not spared from challenges. Streaming services and high ticket prices are affecting cinemas. Innovative subscription models such as Cineville and Cinfinity are trying to shed light on the issue by offering flat rates for cinema visits. But the question remains: Is that enough to attract viewers to the cinemas? Because the competition from Netflix & Co. is merciless.

Film highlights in autumn

This fall, film fans can look forward to some real treats. One of the most anticipated sequels is “Avatar 3,” which hits theaters on December 17th. “Wicked 2” also makes you sit up and take notice and starts on November 20th. In addition to these blockbusters, interesting independent films will also be shown in the cinema.

Here are some other highlights you shouldn't miss:

  • „Downton Abbey 3“ – bereits seit 18. September im Kino
  • „Frankenstein“ – Weltpremiere beim Filmfest Venedig mit einem hochkarätigen Ensemble, dazu gehören Jacob Elordi und Oscar Isaac
  • „Amrum“ von Fatih Akin – feierte am 9. Oktober im Rahmen des Filmfestivals in Cannes Premiere
  • „Eddington“ von Ari Aster, mit Pedro Pascal, startet am 20. November
  • „Stiller“, die Literaturverfilmung von Max Frisch, läuft seit 30. Oktober

Award-winning films in focus

One particularly notable film that recently received an award is Seven Days. This film examines the complex issues of human rights and the commitment against the tyrannical structures in Iran. The main character Maryam is the focus and struggles for acceptance of her decisions within her family. The film's narrative is thought-provoking and has the potential to spark deep discussions among viewers. The Ted Pedas Award, won by “Seven Days,” honors films that often deserve more appreciation and highlights the importance of storytelling in cinema.

When it comes to new releases, the thriller genre is causing a lot of excitement. Kathryn Bigelow's "A House of Dynamite" and Luca Guadagnino's latest film, "After the Hunt," have both recently hit theaters and are turning heads. The strong ensemble of “Frankenstein” in particular ensures high expectations.

The cinemas in Munich have a lot to offer, and it will be exciting to see how viewers react to the new films. With freshly tested concepts and a colorful mix of different genres, it could be a successful autumn in the cinema. And so we can ask ourselves: Which film highlight will you visit first?
