Subway accident at Harras: Major disruptions until Friday evening!
On Thursday afternoon there was an incident at Harras in Munich that caused some inconvenience. A subway train derailed during shunting work, like this Evening newspaper reported. Fortunately, the train was traveling at low speed at the time of the incident and there were no passengers in the carriages. No injuries were reported either, but the stop at Harras cannot be reached at the moment.
The Munich Transport Company (MVG) has immediately set up a replacement rail service between the Implerstrasse and Partnachplatz subway stations. Travelers can also use the bus lines X30 from Brüdermühlstraße to Harras and 54 via Harras to Partnachplatz as alternative routes. A shuttle service was established on the U6 line, with trains only running between Klinikum Großhadern and Partnachplatz as well as between Garching Research Center and Implerstrasse and being diverted from Implerstrasse to Fürstenried West.
Consequences for subway traffic
The restrictions not only affect the U6, but also have an impact on the U3. This line continues to run the regular route, but passengers must expect delays and occasional cancellations. The MVG estimates that the disruptions will last until Friday evening at 11 p.m. Travelers will also have to prepare for problems “until further notice”, as a lack of staff and an insufficient number of subway trains will result in additional timetable changes, such as the following Mercury reported.
The U4 and U7 lines are particularly affected. While the U4 runs every 10 minutes all day from Monday to Friday, there is no 5-minute service during rush hour. The U7 also only runs between the Olympia shopping center and Sendlinger Tor, although shorter trains are in use. Alternatively, travelers between Sendlinger Tor and Neuperlach Zentrum have the option of switching to the U2 or U5. These measures are the consequence of problems that occurred at the beginning of 2024 and caused similar restrictions.
The MVG is working to improve the situation as quickly as possible. In the meantime, most passengers are asked to be patient and, if necessary, use other means of transport. Safety is of course our top priority and MVG confirms that operations are always guaranteed.
