Eisbach wave in Munich: surfers save what is no longer there!

A lot is happening in Munich! Yesterday the latest development on the Eisbachwelle in the English Garden became known: Unfortunately, the wave does not currently exist. After thorough cleaning of the stream bed, it no longer formed. Experts from the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg have now taken on the matter and are measuring the current and the subsurface to find out how the wave can be made malleable again. In the meantime, Munich's surfers are showing their ingenuity by using boards to make the wave surfable again in nightly activities.

But it's not just the surfers who are active. The mobility department is also starting another initiative: there will be free bike checks in November! Bicycle owners can have their bikes checked on November 6th at Stephansplatz, November 17th at Josephsplatz and November 25th at Willy-Brandt-Platz. The inspection covers important points such as brakes, lights, reflectors and tire pressure - even strollers and wheelchairs are welcome.

Environmental protection meets cosmetics

Speaking of the initiative: A new type of deposit system for cosmetics is being tested in Munich. A start-up has installed deposit machines for empty cosmetic packaging in the city. The packaging should be cleaned and refilled. People who want to give their old bottles a second chance receive a return deposit of 29 cents per packaged container. These machines can be found in ten Kaufland branches and three VollCorner organic market branches. A step in the right direction for the environment!

Preparations are also currently underway for the “Together for Strong Schools” fundraising campaign, which promotes non-violent and solution-oriented communication in schools. This important promotion will be active until at least December, perhaps even longer.
