Cathay Pacific launches exciting flights between Munich and Hong Kong!
Today is a big day for travelers in Munich and Asia! From June 16, 2025, the renowned airline Cathay Pacific will be flying directly between the Bavarian capital and vibrant Hong Kong for the first time. This connection opens up new opportunities for business and leisure travelers and provides a breath of fresh air at Munich Airport.
The maiden flight will be carried out with a modern Airbus A350-900, which is not only known for its comfort but is also eco-friendly. Cathay Pacific will offer these new flights four times a week: every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Departures from Munich are scheduled for 2 p.m., with an arrival in Hong Kong at 6:55 a.m. the next morning. The return flights depart from Hong Kong at 1:10 a.m. and land in Munich at 7:55 a.m.
Ceremonial opening
The first landing in Munich was celebrated extensively: a ceremonial submersion of the aircraft and the tradition of presenting the passengers with gingerbread hearts ensured an atmospheric reception. Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH, emphasized the special importance of this connection not only for the airport, but also for the region. Munich Airport reports that the connection is intended to link Munich and Hong Kong and give travelers from Asia access to an important European and North American hub.
Brian Tsoi, Cathay Pacific's Regional General Manager Europe, emphasized that the new connection significantly improves travel options for all future travelers. Goods from Bavarian companies could previously be transported to Hong Kong through the freight subsidiary Cathay Cargo, but there is now finally the possibility of directly connecting the two cities.
Expansion in Europe
This direct connection represents Munich as Cathay Pacific's second destination in Germany, following the existing daily service to Frankfurt. In expanding the European network, the airline plans to fly to Brussels again on August 3, 2025, which further increases the importance of Munich and Brussels as central hubs in Europe. Cathay Pacific aims to offer a total of 93 return flights per week to Europe in summer 2025 - a significant increase compared to the previous 78 flights.
With Munich as a new destination in its network, Cathay Pacific is expanding the opportunities for European travelers to reach numerous destinations in mainland China. This also applies to the cooperation with the low-cost airline HK Express, which offers additional connections.
Travelers looking for exciting vacation destinations or new business opportunities now have more options than ever before with this new direct route between Munich and Hong Kong. Munich is once again proving to be a dynamic hub and attractive city for international aviation connections.
