Pensioner destroys Teslas in Munich: A grudge against Elon Musk?
Things are going very high in Bogenhausen at the moment: a pensioner over 80 years old has earned a questionable reputation with his vandalism attacks on Teslas in the neighborhood. On Friday morning, May 16, 2025, the senior citizen was noticed for his alleged behavior when, according to Radio Gong, he intentionally caused property damage to various vehicles of this brand.
The incidents occurred on different streets in Bogenhausen and in the neighboring district of Haidhausen, where the man apparently took out his anger on the Teslas. The damage amounts to tens of thousands of euros. An automated alarm system of a parked Tesla informed the owner of the incident, whereupon he immediately rushed to the scene, but was already too late; the perpetrator had fled.
Visible political resentment
According to the investigations so far, the senior says he has a personal grudge against Tesla founder Elon Musk. According to Abendzeitung, a television film about Musk is said to have been the cause of the pensioner's aggression. The police, who are now extensively investigating the case, received clues to the suspect's identity through video recordings.
A preliminary arrest was made the same day and there is evidence to suggest that the man is also responsible for other property damage in the area. In total, investigations are underway against him for at least eleven other incidents.
An escalating situation
The incident in Munich joins a worrying series of attacks on Tesla vehicles worldwide. Auto Motor und Sport reports that an activist group calling itself “SANE” has announced that it will specifically attack Tesla vehicles in California. Critics accuse Musk of being associated with authoritarian regimes, which inflames tempers and leads to further vandalism attacks.
Overall, it remains to be seen how the police in Munich will deal with this troubled phenomenon and whether further cases of vandalism will come to light. The combination of personal resentment and politically motivated protests is creating a difficult situation for Tesla owners in the city and beyond.
A little more calm would be desirable for everyone involved.
