Martina Taubenberger leaves the factory district: Farewell to 11 years of art!

Berg am Laim, Deutschland - A profound change is before the Munich Werkviertel-Mitte . Martina Taubenberger, who has worked as a program manager for the “Werkviertel-Mitte Kunst” project in the past eleven years, will leave the art center on June 30, 2025. Under her aegis, the factory district became a pulsating center for art and culture that offers creative freedom and numerous local and international artists: attracts inside.

Taubenberger has organized over 140 exhibitions, cooperation and artist residences. Her art campaign "When the Sun stand Still" by the artist Alain Roche attracted worldwide attention. But not only that: it was also responsible for the remarkable studio support program, which offers many young talents a platform to present and develop their work. In addition, innovative events such as the ice music concerts on the roof of the White Box building are among their success. Eckart, the owner of the site, has transformed the factory district, formerly the location of the dumpling factory "Pfanni", into an urban art and cultural center.

The future of the plant district

What comes to Taubenberger now? So far, information about the future plans for the cultural program in the factory district is only vague. There is also news about Johann König, who gives up the gallery areas in the "Bergson", but maintains the former cabbage silos. From July 3, 2025, however, "Reshaping Reality" opens an immersive art exhibition, which enables visitors: inside using "extended reality" glasses with the works of art. The concept developed by Anhuyen promises a new experience in the art world and enriches the previous cultural focus of the plant area.

The fact that art and culture also play an important role in urban development is given by numerous studies. According to a Report , art and culture have taken different developments in cities such as Baltimore and Hamburg. In Hamburg, cultural policy benefits greatly from government resources, which means a different dynamic for artists: inside than in Baltimore, where the network is rather civil society.

art in public space

In the middle of the works district, the work of Taubenberger has contributed significantly to the revival of the district. The focus on art that can work in public space is a central concern of the program, which has become particularly important in the past five years. The creative projects that have arisen here show the variety and quality of the artistic work that is rooted in this area. The "Out of the Box" festival is a highlight that presents the mixture of local and international work.

As is the case with the factory district and its cultural heritage, it remains exciting to wait. It is certain that Martina Taubenberger's influence on the Munich art scene remains sustainable and many will recognize their handwriting in future projects. The course are asked, the questions remain: What will become of the cultural vitality of the plant district without their expertise? A clear view of the upcoming challenges and opportunities will only be visible in the coming months.
