Bee-friendly garden: This is how Allach becomes an insect paradise!
Nature is calling and who of us hasn't always wanted to take action ourselves to do something good for our flying friends? On July 12, 2025, an exciting hands-on workshop on planting bee-friendly plants will take place in Untermenzing. It starts at 9 a.m. at Oertelplatz in Allach, Munich. If you want to take part, pack your bike and bring a good mood to cycle together to the event location.
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to learn new things and actively contribute to promoting the local bee population. Participants can look forward to practical instructions: from choosing the right seeds to soil preparation and planting techniques. Digging up a garden and turning it into an insect paradise is also on the agenda. Drinks and snacks are provided so that your physical well-being is also taken care of.
Why bee-friendly plants?
The importance of bee-friendly plants cannot be overestimated. Not all plants are equally suitable for our bees. Many species of wild bees have specific preferences when it comes to their food. While honey bees are less picky, specific species require specific food sources. To create a rich food supply, experts recommend planting a diverse selection of plants in the garden. These include local fruit trees and wild shrubs such as buckthorn, dogwood, gooseberries and sloes, which are tailored to the needs of a wide variety of bee species. The Federal Nature Conservation Agency reports this on its website.
Another highlight for garden lovers is creating a wildflower bed. Special local mixtures should be used, ideally consisting of regional organic seeds. The BN online shop offers numerous options for this. To encourage wildflowers to bloom, be careful not to mow lawns too frequently. If you grow vegetables, you can go one step further by allowing leeks or carrots to bloom, for example. This not only makes the garden more beautiful, but also serves as a true paradise for many pollinating insects.
The right choice for diversity
When it comes to choosing plants in particular, the range on offer is almost overwhelming. Well-known bee pastures are those that provide rich nectar and pollen. These primarily include Asteraceae and Umbelliferae. The more diverse the flowering plants are combined, the more species are attracted. Butterflies are also among the many plants that support a thriving insect world. So if you have a good hand in choosing these plants, you are not only doing something good for the bees, but also other insects such as bumblebees, hoverflies and beetles.
For anyone who would like to get involved and learn something about how to properly care for bee-friendly plants, the workshop in Untermenzing is the perfect opportunity. Together we set an example for nature conservation and at the same time everyone can benefit from the wealth of tips and tricks to become a little nature saver themselves.
Join us and let us make our environment a little more flourishing and worth living in!
