Violence escalation in Harlaching: knife and shot in an apartment!

On Monday evening, June 2, 2025, in Munich-Harlaching there was a violent incident between two men, which led to a larger police operation. At around 7:30 p.m., the police were informed about an emergency call in which a threat situation with a knife and shot was reported in an apartment. According to News Munich , the men involved were 49 and 55 years old and both lived in Munich.

The dispute between the two men started verbally and quickly escalated to a physical argument. The 55-year-old hit the 49-year-old in the face, which led to an injury to the younger one. The 55-year-old then threatened his opponent with a knife, whereupon the 49-year-old armed himself with a gas revolver and shot towards the ceiling. The shot caused a dramatic turn, and the 55-year-old fled out of the apartment while the police arrived.

what happened?

The police asked the 49-year-old to leave the apartment unarmed, which he did. It was arrested and the gas revolver was secured. The 49-year-old is now being investigated for threats and violation of the Weapons Act, while the 55-year-old was reported for threats and assault. Both were released on site, but the investigation was taken over by Commissioner 26, which takes care of the further details of the assault, threat and weapon offenses. This situation shows how quickly a dispute can become palpable conflicts, which also illustrates other incidents in the region.

A look at violent crime

Such incidents are unfortunately part of a larger trend. According to Statista , violent crimes make up less than 4% of all police crimes in Germany, but they have a strong influence on people's feeling of security. Around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in 2024, the highest number since 2007. The reasons for this increase are diverse and range from economic uncertainty to social stress and psychological problems caused by Corona pandemic. The number of acts of violence against emergency services also reached a maximum of 2,740 cases in 2023.

Munich is not only in this phenomenon, but shows an example of how such conflicts can also arise in supposedly calm quarter. The population is right: How safe are we still in our own four walls? Better to have an eye on the neighbors than to become a victim of such unnecessary violence - because as the events in Harlaching illustrate, things can go faster than you think.
