memories of Karl Leisner
Another important aspect of the Klever history is the monument in honor of Karl Leisner, which is also in the city. Leisner was born on February 28, 1915 in Rees and died on August 12, 1945 in Planegg. It grew up at Flandrischen Straße 11 and was blessed on December 17, 1944 in the Dachau concentration camp. His beatification later took place on June 23, 1996. Leisner shows an impressive memorial, which was designed by sculptor Bert Gerresheim and his assistant Francisco Ces Hernandez.
The monument consists of a multi -part stele, a bust and symbols of his sufferings, including its prisoners in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and Dachau concentration camp, which are impressively engraved into the stele. There are also religious symbols in front of the stele that represent the agony of Jesus. This monument is not only a tribute to Leisner, but also an urgent reminder and is reminiscent of the horrors of war and the power of faith.
a place of commemoration
The forest cemetery and the monument for Karl Leisner are part of an extensive cultural and historical infrastructure in Kleve. The city has a lot to offer in terms of monuments and historical sites that encourage visitors to rediscover the past. So if you are in Kleve during this time and have a good knack for historical explorations, you should never miss the upcoming guided tours.
The opportunity to deal with the Klever story and also take a look at the important graves, is very valued by the organizers and makes Kleve an interesting place for locals and for tourists.
