Dachau drives badly: cyclists report dangerous overtaking!
Neuhausen, München, Deutschland - In Dachau, the location for cyclists remains tense. A current survey by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) shows that 81 percent of the participants often feel too tightly outdated by cars when cycling. Many cyclists report: inside of an aggressive feeling of traffic in the city, since 68 percent of the respondents share this perception. Despite a solid participation of around 184,500 people in the survey within the framework of the comprehensive bicycle climate test, the satisfaction in Dachau is suboptimal.
The picture becomes even darker: 68 percent of the cyclists indicate that it hardly experiences conflicts with other cyclists, which sounds positive, but is not a replacement for a safe driving environment. A major problem remains overtaking by cars, since the necessary distance is often not met. According to the results, it is particularly unfortunate that there have been little progress in the areas of “leadership on construction sites” and “monitoring of wrong parking” for a decade. The ADFC district association expresses its regret on its website about this stagnant development and demands more commitment to cyclists in the city.
bicycle climate test 2024 and its results
The survey took place in the period from September to November 2024 and was carried out for the eleventh time. The ADFC bicycle climate test is not only the largest survey of this kind in Germany, but is also considered important internationally. The results not only help cyclists, but are also valuable information for traffic planners: inside and political decision -makers. These feedback is crucial for future traffic design.
With a view to other big cities, a mixed picture is shown. Several German metropolises, including Frankfurt am Main, have actually been able to improve their evaluation, while Dachau lags behind in recent years. Over 70 percent of cyclists in Germany also say that they do not feel safe in road traffic, which is reinforced by the narrow bike paths that are often blocked by parked cars. The report by ZDF confirms that the improvement of cycling conditions in many cities is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport.
The future of cycling in Dachau
In order to improve the situation for cyclists, an increased expansion of the cycle paths is required, especially on main axes and country roads. The Federal Government's national cycle path plan has set itself the goal of making Germany a real bicycle country by 2030, but implementation remains a major challenge. After all, traffic planning and delivery traffic are often problematic points that need to be clarified. However, local initiatives and the pressure by the population could be the turning point to bring Dachau to the bicycle-friendly card.
The extensive results of the ADFC bicycle climate test can be viewed on www.bahrradklima-tadfc.de and provide a detailed insight into the satisfaction of cyclists in Germany. While other big cities develop on the way to cycling friendliness, Dachau is still a bit behind - there is still a lot of work ahead of us!
