Bellevue di Monaco: Ten years of solidarity and culture in Munich!

It is a very special day for the socially committed community of Munich: Bellevue di Monaco is celebrating its tenth anniversary today, July 13, 2025. The project started exactly ten years ago as a courageous protest against the demolition of a municipal building in the Glockenbachviertel. Activists, including well-known personalities such as Mehmet Scholl and Luise Kinseher, campaigned for the renovation of the empty house. Their goal was not only to preserve the building, but also to create a strong, sustainable organization to provide a home for refugees and other people at risk.

In 2013, the Bellevue di Monaco social cooperative was founded from this initiative. Since then, the building has not only served as a living space for 40 people, but also as a meeting, cultural and sports facility. A highlight of recent years was the opening of a football field on the roof in 2020, which is not only used for sports but also represents a symbol of integration and community. As the tz reports, the project shows that social justice and equal opportunities for everyone are at the center of the work.

An open house for everyone

The social cooperative is not only focused on protecting housing, but also wants to be an open and discussion-friendly house for refugees and Munich citizens. The declared goal is to treat refugees humanely and to create spaces in which escape, migration, immigration and identity can be discussed. Bellevue di Monaco now has around 800 members and 500 volunteers who are active in a wide range of projects.

The team, consisting of around 10 full-time people and numerous volunteers, supports the organization in various areas of work: from supervising volunteer work to organizing cultural events and political activities. The program also includes offers such as language lessons and sewing workshops for refugee women. In this way, the social cooperative shows that it has a good hand when it comes to integrating people into society.

A look into the future

The social discourse surrounding migration and flight has intensified in recent years. But like that Official website emphasized by Bellevue di Monaco, Munich remains open and committed. In addition to a variety of events such as the annual Giro di Monaco charity run, which had 11,000 participants last year, there is also a new project on the agenda: a training bakery on Corneliusstrasse, the implementation of which is currently being discussed with the city.

The anniversary celebration today from 3 p.m. on Müllerstrasse promises a colorful program with artists and bands that properly celebrates the successes of Bellevue di Monaco. The organization remains an outstanding example of social cohesion and integration. Over the years it has developed into a beacon for refugees and will continue to do so in the future. More information about the events and how you can support can be found on their website.

In summary, Bellevue di Monaco is not just a project, but a living symbol of integration and solidarity in an increasingly complex society. At this anniversary celebration it becomes clear: this is not just a place to celebrate, this is also where the future is being shaped.
