New soccer field for ESV Ost in Munich: Hope for sport!

In Munich, a lot is happening in football, especially at ESV Munich-Ost. At the point where the train lines cross to Simbach and Rosenheim, a new soccer field is being built, which is urgently needed. This step takes place after the old sports field on Truderinger Straße 2021 was abandoned in favor of a new area and a training ground on Kronstadter Straße also had to give way in 2019 to make room for a second main route. The district sports facility Fehlwiesenstraße has also been unusable since the end of 2022 because it is being converted into a Sportcampus East.

The ESV Munich-Ost, which was founded in 1933 and has a close connection to Berg am Laim, has been the need for a new place since the 1990s. The chairman Rolf Leonhardt emphasizes that the original plans provide a settlement west of Baumkirchner Straße, where a new sports center was opened in 2020. The anticipation for the new soccer field in the Gleisdreieck is great because it is equipped with a modern artificial turf and a floodlight system, which enables year -round training. It is planned that the game operation can be recorded from the second half of the season in spring 2026.

financing and infrastructure

The financing of the project is secured by a generous donation as well as funding from BLSV and the city of Munich. Mayor Verena Dietl praised the club for her courage and patience throughout the process. The work on the functional building with changing rooms and sanitary facilities is still underway. With a membership of around 300, which includes male, women and youth teams, the association plans to increase this number to 600 to shorten the waiting lists.

The problem of scarcity of suitable venues is not new. According to a report by Süddeutsche Zeitung , both amateur and professional clubs in Munich have difficulty finding suitable places. While the largest stadium in the city, the Fröttmaninger Arena, is owned by FC Bayern Munich and requires extensive renovations and investments, you are desperately looking for solutions to eliminate these bottlenecks.

The ESV Munich-Ost in the context of Munich Sports

The ESV Ost is not only with its challenges. Next to him there are different stages and sports facilities in Munich, which are also dependent on investments and extensions. For example, the city council is planning investments of almost 30 million euros for the Grünwald stadium, which is intended to expand the capacity of 15,000 to 18,060 places. In view of the high demand, it becomes clear that with the new football area in the Gleisdreieck there is an important step in the right direction.

The future looks promising for the ESV Ost: the new place will not only support the club, but also the entire football community in Munich and help to use the little available places more effectively.
