Thanks to a clear “yes” from the city council, the planning is already in full swing. The financing is also secured because the Free State of Bavaria has given a funding commitment of 450,000 euros. Member of the state parliament and second mayor Daniel Artmann has campaigned for this by earning the application in the supplementary budget. rosenheim24 is, and now the city administration clarifies the framework for the implementation of the project.

The surf wave should be an attraction for all water sports enthusiasts and not only usable for surfers, but also for kayakers. This is in a new trend that makes water sports more and more popular. According to Statista , swimming in Germany is one of the most popular water sports, but surf sports suffers from a low waves and a limited number of suitable surf spots. With the establishment of the surf wave, Rosenheim could offer real added value and build up a surgical community.

A new surf community is created

Julia Raupach, who launched the wave riding department at the Free Turnership of Rosenheim, pursues exactly this goal: a community for surfers. Before founding, she had to travel to Munich or Thalkirchen for surfable waves, which should now change. Within just three months, the department has already recruited 35 members who come for various backgrounds, including international surfers. The department is open to anyone interested and would like to show that surfing is a sport for everyone.

In order to further strengthen the sense of community, the department is planning various activities, including trips to surf waves, swimming courses, yoga evenings and film evenings. Particular attention is also paid to the cost -effective procurement of surf equipment; A planned flea market should help here. Wasserburger Voice added that the department has already contacted its colleagues in Hanover and Nuremberg in order to receive additional support and inputs.

The challenges remain

Although the anticipation is great, some questions about the planned surf wave initially remain open. An important point is how the planned wave can be realized and which other framework conditions must be taken into account. According to critics, the department could also exist without the wave, which would mean that the activities would have to develop independently. However, the water and sports city of Rosenheim is determined to explore the possibilities and to realize this new trend-sports approach.

The seriousness of the project also confirms the trend development in water sports, because swimming and other water activities have been on the rise for years. The number of members in swimming clubs achieved a new record in 2023, which underlines the vitality of this sport. A surf wave in Rosenheim could not only promote local water sports, but also create an incentive to further spread these sports in the region.

who knows, maybe Rosenheim will soon be known as the new surf paradise, not only for the locals. The wave is in sight - and the hype already noticeable!
