New Café Backsteinchen: opening in 2026 at Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz!

A move is coming up! The sisters Alexa and Laura Steinke will open the new Café Backsteinchen at Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz 1 in Munich in 2026. The location was formerly an outhouse below Westpark and was advertised for use by the city of Munich. The sisters were awarded the contract in 2022 and are now working hard towards the planned start in spring 2026.

The popular outdoor café Steinchen at Agnes-Bernauer-Straße 77 will close at the end of 2025 because the city wants to use the space itself. Since July 2020, the Steinke sisters have been running Café Steinchen with a team of around 15 employees and the active support of their parents. Before that, they were able to gain experience in the bar “Die Perle” in Laim for six months.

The concept of the new cafe

The concept of Café Backsteinchen will be a successful mixture of the previous Café Steinchen and the bar “Die Perle”. During the day, guests can look forward to exquisite coffee and homemade cakes, while in the evening the Aperol Spritz will play the main role. This mix could be the perfect way to appeal to both afternoon crowds and evening socializing.

The offer will largely remain true to the tried and tested classics of Café Steinchen: home-baked cakes and high-quality coffee will be the focus. The new café will also have a well-equipped kitchen and storage, as well as a modern coffee machine. Outdoor seating and a rooftop terrace are also planned for the future, although these will not be available in time for opening.

Special attractions for guests

Another highlight is the sports equipment that can be borrowed from the café. Guests have the opportunity to rent beach volleyballs or spikeball sets and thus spend time actively. This means the café is not only a place for relaxed coffee breaks, but also for sporting activities.

Café Steinchen will close permanently on November 27, 2025. During the transition period until the brick building opens, the café will only be open on Thursdays to Sundays from November 28th to December 20th. To say goodbye, there will also be Advent markets on November 29th and December 13th as well as a winter clothing flea market on December 6th. This offers a nice opportunity to say goodbye to a popular meeting place in Laim.

Overall, Café Backsteinchen seems to be a promising new destination for Munich's coffee lovers. The idea of promoting social exchange and the coziness of a café brings a breath of fresh air to the city's gastronomy scene. Cafés are known for providing an informal atmosphere in which to relax, study or chat, in keeping with the tradition of these popular establishments that grew out of French coffee culture reports Simple Wikipedia.
