Destructive storm: Auerbach in the fight against the floods!

The force of nature was impressive in the Vogtland last Sunday. Heavy rain and a violent storm chaos in Auerbach and the surrounding area. The streets were flooded and uprooted trees made traffic almost impossible. As the Freie Presse reports, the rescue workers were in constant use: Boss Jens Leistner from the Southwest Saxony rescue association reported 57 missions for Sunday evening alone. And that was just the beginning, because further alarms were expected for the night and Monday.

What exactly happened? From 4:19 p.m., the extreme weather events developed, which also hit the city center of Auerbach. The city even had to call for the special location on Sunday. Reporters: inside testify to a real flood of mud: 65 liters of rain per square meter fell in Aue within an hour! Another worrying message came from Mylau, where a run -up was closed into the Göltzsch.

The damage in detail

The situation continued to come to a head. There was so much hail on the streets in Schwarzenberg that passers -by could hardly stay on his feet. Keller ran full and numerous cars got stuck on flooded roads. The fire brigade was in constant use in the affected districts of Vogtland and Zwickau: within only three hours they had to master 77 missions, while lightning damaged several chimneys and trees. In Auerbach, a fallen tree hit a parked car, and a scaffolding fell on a residential building, while in Treuen a collapsed chimney damaged permanent cars.

The weather conditions also had an impact on rail traffic in the Göltzschtal, which contributed to the difficulties in the region. The Auerbach/v. was also in a special situation because of the high rise of operations, which underlines the challenging circumstances.

Review of past storms

These extreme weather events are not just local isolated cases. According to [GDV] (https://www.gdv.de/gdv/statistik/datservicee-zum-naturfahrenreport/sachsversicherung-sturm-hagel/wo-unwetter-in-de-meisten-schaeden-schaeden-s-s-dia- baren-baren-baren-to-grim. The frequency of storm and hail damage is documented regularly, the next update will include the damage to the statistics year 2023. A timely analysis that also has an eye on the current situation in Vogtland. One could say: the topic of weather is becoming more and more a challenge that we have to keep in mind.

The events of the past Sunday are impressive for us to the violence of nature and the need to take such phenomenal weather events seriously. It is to be hoped that the region can recover from the damage and the affected citizens: soon be able to return to normality.
