Security Day in Kassel: Together against violence and for civil courage!
Last Saturday, the City of Kassel's Prevention Day took place on Königsplatz, an event that was all about civil courage and promoting security. In bright weather, visitors were able to find out about how to deal with dangers in everyday life and receive valuable tips on promoting a sense of community. HNA reports that numerous actors, including the fire department and diakonia, were on site and offered useful information.
A very special moment of the day was the report from Sabine Angermann, who recounted an incident in which she intervened decisively when one man attacked another. This experience made it clear how important it is not to look away in such situations, but to act actively. Angermann emphasized how much she would like to see more measures to strengthen public safety.
Security offers and information
The police presented themselves at a specially set up information stand and offered visitors the opportunity to make contact and exchange information. Mirco Skrzipek from the police gave away reflective snap bands to children to also promote awareness of road safety. Kim Wenzel from the “Women Inform Women” advice center provided important information on how those affected by domestic violence can get help, for example through the Violence Protection Act. This enables, among other things, contact bans and housing assignments to ensure a safe environment for those affected, as shown Kassel.de can be read.
To support victims of domestic violence, various advice centers in Kassel can be used, including “Women Helping Women” and numerous other institutions that offer professional help. For those who need legal support, advice certificates can be applied for, highlighting the importance of documentation - from ID to rental agreement to medical certificates.
Civil Courage: A Community Mission
A central theme at the prevention day was strengthening civil courage. Domestic violence often goes unnoticed or ignored; Approximately one in four women in Germany experiences violence in their relationship at least once. According to an expert from the “Berlin Initiative against Violence against Women e.V.” The neighborhood should play an active role in identifying violent situations early and offering support. Five simple steps will help:
The motto of the initiative makes it clear: “Domestic violence is not a private matter, it is structural violence”. Those affected deserve our support and attention. The nationwide “Violence against Women” hotline on 116 016 is also available anonymously around the clock.
The Prevention Day in Kassel was an important step in the right direction to raise awareness of security issues and civil courage. The actions and information show that each of us has a responsibility to take a stand against violence and for a safe neighborhood.
