Lufthansa starts non-stop flights to Riyadh: An anniversary in the air!

Good news for travel fans: Lufthansa is expanding its offering at Munich Airport! From October 26, 2025, the route will be non-stop from Munich to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With this step, the airline is taking another step into the exciting future of travel.

The new flights will be offered three times a week. The first departure is at 9:45 p.m. and will take passengers to the Saudi capital at 4:50 a.m. local time the next day. For the return flight to Munich, the Airbus A350-900 used for this route takes off at 6:25 a.m. and lands promptly at 10:25 a.m.

A look at Riyadh

Riyadh, with almost eight million inhabitants, is not only the political heart of Saudi Arabia, but also a strategic point for pilgrims on the way to Mecca and Medina. The city, surrounded by desert, will also host major international events in the future, such as the World Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034. These events not only attract tourists but also provide a platform for cultural exchange.

The opening of the new connection also marks the 65th anniversary of Lufthansa, which will celebrate its first flight to Saudi Arabia in 2025. Together with Eurowings and ITA Airways, Lufthansa Group will operate in the region, offering a total of 22 weekly flights to Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah, as Mercury reported.

Critical voices on the human rights situation

But not everything is rosy in Saudi Arabia. The human rights situation is internationally controversial, especially because of the suppression of freedom of expression and discrimination. Each new flight to Riyadh also brings with it these critical issues that should not be ignored. However, the Lufthansa Group has set itself the goal of contributing to better understanding through exchange between cultures.

With the introduction of this new route it is also clear that Munich plays an important role in international travel as a hub for connections to the Middle East, with a total of 120 weekly connections to this region, such as Lufthansa Group supplemented.

So anyone who would like to get to know the vibrant and historic Riad can look forward to new travel options from autumn 2025. Pack your bags and be ready for an adventure in the heart of Saudi Arabia!
