Thomas Müller shines in Vancouver: brother visit and penalty goal!
The passion for football remains unbroken: Thomas Müller (35) recently made the step across the pond and now plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada. After successfully concluding a contract, he has settled in quite well there, even though his everyday life takes place between North America and his hometown in Munich. Müller has rented an apartment in Munich's Gärtnerplatzviertel and runs the Gut Wettlkam stud farm in Otterfing together with his wife Lisa (35). Despite numerous speculations about her marriage status, Lisa has not yet traveled to Canada, which is causing some controversy. Excitingly, however, Thomas' brother, Simon Müller (33), visited him in Vancouver and the reunion was shared in a moving video on Instagram that thrilled fans.
What makes it particularly emotional is the description of the clip: “Brotherly love travels far.” Simon wore a Vancouver Whitecaps jersey with the inscription “Müller” and the reunion of the two brothers not only made Thomas smile, but also delighted the fans. While Thomas leads the team as captain, it remains to be seen whether and when the Müller family will be joined by a visit from Lisa.
Sporting challenges and first successes
The first season for the Whitecaps seems to be off to a promising start for Müller. In the last game played at BC Place, he scored a game-winning penalty in the 104th minute that secured the team a resounding 3-2 win over St. Louis CITY SC. Not only does this goal mark his first for the Whitecaps, but it was also his first start for the club since joining at the start of the month. Müller has shown that he can quickly gain a foothold in the MLS.
To the delight of the fans, it was also notable that the Whitecaps overcame two deficits during the game before Müller took the lead. Head coach Jesper Sørensen praised the drama and commitment of his new addition, which really thrilled the fans. With this win, the Whitecaps have now moved up to fourth place in the Western Conference, just four points behind the league leaders. They have seven games remaining this season, including a home game against the Philadelphia Union on September 13th.
A team with ambitions
As he faces the challenges of his new league, Müller has emphasized how important team spirit is to success in the MLS and Canadian Championship. Even though he has no experience in playoffs so far, he sees parallels to the knockout rounds of the Champions League. As he adjusts to his new surroundings, he expressed a desire to optimize his team's offense to ensure further victories.
In the midst of sporting ambitions, contact with old friends remains: a visit from Thomas' former teammates Bastian Schweinsteiger (41) and Felix Neureuther (41) may also be on the cards, which increases the anticipation of further encounters. Whether Lisa will travel to Canada soon remains an exciting chapter in the story that continues to keep fans busy.
