Political graffiti shocks Bogenhausen: State security investigates!

In recent weeks there has been a worrying increase in political graffiti in Bogenhausen and Berg am Laim that is directly related to National Socialism. As the tz Reportedly, police units had to intervene at the Max Joseph Bridge and the bicycle bridge over Ifflandstrasse to remove offensive lettering.

The swastikas that were painted over an apartment building on Friedrich-Herschel-Straße are particularly alarming. Furthermore, unknown people sprayed content with anti-fascist references as well as other lettering on fences in the same street over a distance of around 50 meters. Similar aggression can also be observed in the pedestrian underpass at the Berg am Laim S-Bahn station.

Investigations and reactions

The Commissariat for State Security Crimes and the public prosecutor's office have already initiated investigations because there is a suspicion that the symbols of unconstitutional organizations were used. The Bavarian state government has activated its anti-Semitism commissioner to investigate the incidents and issue a clear statement.

A connection to the incidents could arise from events at the “Corps Franconia” student association in Bogenhausen. Residents also report loud Nazi slogans being chanted in a villa on Friedrich-Herschel-Straße. These developments have shaken the local district committee: BA boss Florian Ring (CSU) is calling for the association “Münchner Franken e.V.” to take responsibility and take necessary measures to prevent such repeated occurrences.

Criticism and social context

The district committee strongly condemned the incidents and at the same time appealed to protesters to refrain from damaging property and to be considerate of their neighbors. These incidents highlight the ongoing presence of anti-Semitism and right-wing extremist ideologies in society, which also manifest themselves in modern forms and are often politicized. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education Anti-Semitism remains a central element in right-wing extremism, where Jews are often used as scapegoats for society's problems.

The more complex social problems are perceived, the easier it becomes to revive stereotypes. This is also reflected in the fact that anti-Jewish content on social networks is increasing. Whether from radical Islamism or from right-wing extremist circles, modern anti-Semitic currents are diverse and adapt to the spirit of the times. This also shows the special role that these ideologies play in the extreme right, which always tries to adapt to more moderate views in order not to lose connectivity.

In these dark times, it is even more important to remain vigilant and stand up against all forms of extremism and anti-Semitism. The events in Bogenhausen are only a small but extremely worrying excerpt from a long-term problem.
