Shock on the horse farm: Girl seriously injures herself with a pitchfork!

A terrible accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at a horse farm in Lochhausen. At around 3:24 p.m., the emergency services received an emergency call about an injured person and the emergency services were immediately alerted. At the scene, the emergency services found an 11-year-old girl who had a tine of a pitchfork stuck in her lower leg. The situation was serious, and an emergency doctor immediately provided first aid to keep the girl stable before the Munich fire department was alerted for support, as abendzeitung-muenchen.de reports.

The fire department had to use an angle grinder to cut off part of the tine to ensure safe transport to the hospital. The girl was finally flown in a rescue helicopter to the trauma room of a Munich children's hospital. Nothing was known about the exact circumstances of the accident at the moment, and the fire department could not say how this incident occurred, as tag24.de confirmed.

Frequency of riding accidents

Unfortunately, riding accidents are not uncommon and can result in serious injuries. An analysis shows that on average 121 equestrian accidents are registered per year, with the majority being under 19 years old. Children and young people in particular are often affected. When looking at the injury patterns, it turns out that 87% of cases are characterized by simple injuries. The upper body and head are the most commonly affected areas, which points to the dangers of riding, as germanjournalsportsmedicine.com explains.

Additional security measures could make a difference. This includes the use of protective gloves or helmets, which should also be worn while grooming horses. Conscious information about the right protective tools can certainly help to minimize the risks when riding.

Such incidents, like the one on Tuesday afternoon, highlight the need to improve not only technical skills in equestrian skills, but also safety precautions in order to prevent serious injuries - especially among the youngest. It remains to be hoped that the girl will recover soon and that we can learn lessons from this tragic incident.
