Cellar fire in Munich: Fire brigade saves house from flames!

In Munich, more precisely on Schondorfer Straße, there was a basement fire in a single-family home on June 14, 2025 at 5:51 p.m. A call from the neighborhood alerted the fire department because smoke was coming from the adjacent building and people were suspected to be inside. When they arrived, the emergency services encountered thick, black smoke billowing from the cellar shafts. The situation required quick action.

In order to gain access to the building, a door was forcibly opened while wearing respiratory protection. The fire department immediately began fighting the fire in the basement, where visibility was practically zero. Support teams also searched the covered ground floor in search of possible people. To improve visibility, windows were opened and a fan was used.

Fire outbreak

The source of the fire was a burning refrigerator in the basement. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire quickly and “fire out” was reported around 15 minutes after arriving. Fortunately, it was also discovered that there were no people in the house, so there were no injuries. The building was then ventilated and made smoke-free before the scene was handed over to the police after about an hour.

Context of the causes of the fire

The causes of fire events can be diverse. A common source is defective batteries, which repeatedly cause dangerous situations - as was recently shown in an incident in Hallein, where a defective battery triggered a basement fire. The current statistics on fire damage in recent years also show that accidents in living areas can occur more frequently. Interested readers can find an overview of this on the website of the [IFS](https://www.ifs-ev.org/ Schadenverhuetung/ursachenstatistics/ursachenstatistics-brandschaeden-2024/).

The fire department and authorities are continuously working to prevent such incidents and to raise awareness among the population. It's obvious that vigilant attention to home security is essential. So, stay careful and watch out for possible dangers!
