Watch out, lightning! Mobile radar devices monitor Dortmund's streets today!
There will be a lot of checking in Dortmund today, September 1st, 2025! The North Rhine-Westphalia police have several mobile radar devices in use in the city to ensure traffic safety. There are a total of eight speed traps on the road today, spread across various locations in the city center and the surrounding area.
The current measuring points of the mobile radar devices are very different in their timing. The measurements were taken at 12:04 a.m. on Karl-Marx-Strasse, at 11:25 a.m. on Borsigstrasse, and at 9:20 a.m. on Eberstrasse. All of the locations mentioned have a speed limit of 30 km/h. Wittekindstrasse with the same speed limit was also recorded at 11:04 a.m. It is therefore important for cyclists and drivers to be particularly attentive, because the police will not allow any negligence.

If you're wondering what happens if you exceed the speed limit, let me tell you: In Germany, the fines and the points in Flensburg can quickly lead to an unpleasant surprise. In the worst case scenario, there is a risk of driving bans. The speed limit in urban areas is generally 50 km/h, unless signs indicate otherwise. Exceeding the limit can result in both a blue flash and a dodgy photographer in the rearview mirror. The bussgeldrechner.com also point out that a tolerance of 5 to 10% applies to mobile radar systems, and therefore a particularly keen eye is required for drivers.
Road safety and speed measurements in Germany
The issue of road safety is not just a local concern, but affects all of Germany. Statistics from Allianz Direct show that over 70% of Germans are in favor of the nationwide introduction of a speed limit in order to increase road safety. The number of radar systems is also not negligible: in North Rhine-Westphalia alone, where Dortmund is located, 923 speed controls are installed. Last year there were 714 serious speeding incidents recorded here. An appeal to all drivers: drive slower and, above all, drive safely! According to allianzdirect.de, excessive speeds are the main cause of many traffic accidents.
Mobile speed monitoring will continue to be an important issue for authorities. It will be exciting to see how the number of accidents and behavior on the roads will develop as a result of such measures. In Dortmund the picture is clear: anyone who drives too fast must face consequences. So it's better to look twice at the speed - there can be a lot of danger, even if it's just a few kilometers!
