Augsburg's climate daycare boxing: Children learn environmental protection in a playful way!

With a clear focus on climate formation, the city of Augsburg has taken an important step into the future. In a committed cooperation between the Office for Day Care , the Environment Agency and the Environmental Education Center Augsburg (UBZ), ten climate daycare boxes were purchased. In the coming months, these should ensure that children are introduced to climate change and sustainability in a playful manner.

The Klima-Kita boxes that come from the Ebersberg-Munich energy agency offer a variety of learning modules that can be easily integrated into everyday day care centers. Each set includes eight different modules that contain movement games, experiments, handicrafts and even photos. Different senses are addressed and the children can be sensitized to climate protection in a simple, non -overwhelming way. These measures are part of the Blue City climate protection program of the city of Augsburg, which promotes innovative approaches to CO₂ reduction.

introduction and workshops

To ensure that the pedagogical staff can optimally use the new materials, an introductory workshop took place on May 21. Among the participants were high -ranking representatives such as Mayor Eva Weber and Environmental officer Reiner Erben. They were all enthusiastic about the new initiative and their potential to raise awareness of environmental issues in early childhood.

From July 2025, the daycare centers have the opportunity to book workshops in the environmental education center in order to test the climate daycare boxes and their learning content. In addition, the UBZ will offer regular training for daycare staff-it is ensured that the educators are well prepared to use the new learning formats effectively.

a pioneer in Bavaria

Augsburg thus takes on a pioneering role, because the city is the first big city in Bavaria after the Munich and Ebersberg counties, which introduces such climate daycare boxes. This not only shows a good hand of the city administration, but also the commitment to broad, sustainable education. The basics and knowledge of action that children can learn early are crucial for a better future, as well as the organization climate formation e.V. emphasized.

There you place emphasis on the provision of tools for young people so that they can actively help shape the future. Such initiatives ensure that awareness of climate justice and sustainable development continues to grow and not only finds its way into the classrooms, but also in the daycare centers.

With the introduction of the climate daycare boxes, Augsburg sets an important sign and shows that early childhood education is not just about learning, but also a personal contribution to climate protection. A step that encourages the children, but also encourages the entire society to actively deal with environmental issues and to take on responsibility.
